About
My name is Jeremy Karkanis. I have spent the last 5 years studying civil engineering at the University of British Columbia.
Upon finishing my final year of undergraduate studies I am given the opportunity to reflect on the journey.
In terms of professional interests, it is my opinion that all topics taught in the civil engineering curriculum have individual charm.
I find myself curious about the intricacies and application of every sub-discipline. However, the topics that speak to me most are those
in relation to water resource engineering. I hope to build a career based on principles of hydrology, hydraulic infrastructure design,
GIS and data science in particular.
Further to the topics taught in the civil engineering program, I have learned the value in fostering growth in many diverse directions.
Through the past 5 years, I’ve enjoyed developing skills in animation, challenging myself to reach goals in adventure and fitness through
cycling, running, and hiking, and teaching myself to embrace the present moment.
The sum of my technical experiences over these years has
given me the toolkit necessary for complex problem solving. The personal growth I have undergone has taught me how to surpass challenging
circumstances. Taken together, the experiences collected over the past 5 years have given me the resources necessary to develop into a successful
engineer, and I am excited to see where my next path takes me.
